A Welcome Response

One person's junk is another's treasure and that was certainly the case when we published a wish list in a previous issue of the Piping Plover. The materials we requested for use with our education program included items such as egg cartons, toilet paper and paper towel tubes, and other things that are normally thrown out. The response we received to our request was wonderful. Magazines, egg cartons, and many other items have found their way to the refuge where they will be used in craft projects and learning activities in environmental education programs. We really appreciate the effort many people have taken to get items to us, and thank you for your support. If you wish to continue with your support, we will continue to take the following items:

- Old magazines (Ranger Rick, National Wildlife, Big Backyard, Audubon, and others with large nature pictures - we use these for bulletin board pictures and for projects with students)
- Scrap matte board (used for writing boards and teaching props)
- Film canisters
- Clean parmesan cheese jars
- Plastic dish tubs or enamel pans (for holding aquatic animals)
- Carpet squares
- Crayons -- skinny and fat
- Golden Guide field guides -- any topic

If you have something you'd like to donate, bring the item by the Eastern Shore of Virginia National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center or office, or send it to the refuge at: 5003 Hallett Circle, Cape Charles, VA 23310. Thanks for your help!
